This one was very unique!. I listened to a few tribal drum tracks before hand to find the right approach for this mix Smile
Hello Brennon.
Nice to see another brave engineer attempting this one. It's not a plug and play mix. Quite a lot of work to be done here in the premix. Nice 'Dunn Dunn' sound, the tracks fill the stereo field well and opens up those parts and those tracks stand out as a highlight, especially in the second 'chaotic' half, where they actually sound like a bass line. Did you gate them? And did you use Waves RBass or something similar for the tone? Each note of the Dunn Dunn is there in the mix, not just a wash of low end. I think you kind of nailed it to be honest. It would of been good to get a dedicated 'vocal' track, as that is my only gripe with your mix, the vocals being ghostly sounding and distant in the break downs, but there ain't a lot you could of done really without pushing up the hiss in the 'room' tracks or the 'shaker' track. the motorbike is still there at 5:35, in the left speaker. Ha ha. Would like more 'shaker' and 'bells' as they lift the high end dramatically without using anything. Lovely sounding 'Djembe' in the center and right, good natural tone, as with all the instruments.
