Cool song to mix.
It took me about 2 hours to get it where I wanted it...

Hope it turned out fine

Edit 20.07.2022 (v1 R02)
Thought the first mix had a bit more touch of a smiley face EQ
Also, I've tried out the new plugin from Acustica Audio, Graphite (bass amp), which turns out to be quite nice
Hi!

Yeah I feel the lead vocal/guitars/bv's just glue and harmonise that bit better in mix 2. Well, for my taste anyway. I did check out the first mix the other day and was going to suggest maybe adding a hair more mids or something so was interesting to see the revised mix. I find that mixing rock is really hard and think you've done a nice job here.

Cheers!
Hey mikej,
Thanks for listening and for your feedback.

Yeah, I've revised the mix after a few hours of ear break, and I really found out that the mix was missing something, the glue, as you said
Really, I think this is an important part of mixing, anyway, just take a break after an hour or so, then listen to the entire song, take some notes, make the adjustments, and the next day, listen again.
I just went with about 2 hours of mixing, made some adjustments, thought I was done and submitted it.

Thanks again,
Cheers
I try and listen to and reference with the library mix, and a few commercial mixes (level matched as best I can). I mix on speakers, but I also check the mix on a couple of different sets headphones too. I also aim to post a mix after leaving it for a day or two as well. It doesn't always work out though!

Subtle eq and compression moves on the mix bus can sometimes give the mix the lift it needs. Saw this mastering video the other day and thought it was quite good to show what can be achieved to give a mix that final polish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA3fnMCx378.

Cheers!
Thanks mikej,

I do use references (especially the library mixes), but sometimes I think I'm too stubborn and don't do this always

Thanks for the link too, I saw it, (I'm subscribed to Wytse's channel).
I've also tried to replicate the process ITB, but what I'm missing is the Massenburg EQ (don't think it's the same thing, but 80% of the sound it's good enough)

Lately, I've been purchasing some Acustica Audio plugins (some of them are great) and I also have the Ivory suite (a snapshot of Maselec EQs and compressors) - on some mixes they work on some don't, that really depends, but for me, they are really nice

I think you should check out the Graphite Amp emulation, I find it quite good

Cheers
Ah cool. I certainly need to watch it again a few times. I'm actually kind of going other way with plugins at the moment. I mostly use just the one eq and compressor, and occasionally a bit of saturation. One other thing that I feel sometimes helps mix wise is just listening to some music in the same genre before starting a mix. Or even just taking time to listen to music I guess. I feel it's valid mixing practice anyway.

Cheers!
Yeah, for sure, I think that's a great idea!

Cheers
