The composition and arrangement had such a retro style I heard it as something I'd hear on an old record, so I made it sound like something from an old record. Smile
One chamber for the instruments, one plate for the vocal and guitar solo, everything except the congas was LCR, very minimal and broad EQ.  The only modern tricks were a touch of de-essing on the vocal and a dynamic high shelf on the guitar solo to subdue the string squeaks.
The vocal dominated the mix and I deliberately allowed that to lower the instruments with a master bus compressor when the vocal hits its top level.  This is all about that glorious vocal, and I wanted to keep a subdued and laid-back feel to the instruments.
Very touchy. Nice.
