Try using HP on you compressor if you have the option (most plugins do).
That way your compressor will sound more natural.

When using a HP on a compressor, you can avoid engaging the compressor every time the KD hits or the bass.
(or so the compressor isn't so aggressive)

The pumping effect in this song (style) sounds very bassy and is clouding up your mix.
