I really enjoyed this song. I found it to be quite well recorded and as a result, the mixing kind of falls into place on it's own. Since I doing this for my education and pleasure, I took a liberty of cutting the instrumental breakdown prior the final chorus. Just did not feel right being there. I have a tendency to mix pretty bright. Not sure if it's my hearing or my RME setup. Tried to balance that, but I'm sure I'll hear about it if it's not right ;-)
Please be brutally honest. I'm doing this to learn, not to get ego strokes. :-)
Hi Philthyone,
You could get the snare to snap and thump a little more, just a matter of proper EQing and compressor work. Same for your kick.
I think the guitars are stuck a bit low in the mix, but they sound right. I like bright mixes, I guess that's the reason I like yours!
Keep it up
Cheers,
Till
Thanks for the input. I took the approach of putting the vocal up in focus, it just seems like the vocal is what makes the song for me. Drums have always been my week point for some reason. Suppose I tend to be a little afraid of over processing them. I may take another swipe at the kit with a pointy EQ stick.
So I got the bug and went ahead and made couple small adjustments. Decreased the release on the compressor on the kick, and bumped the EQ on the snare a little around 680.
