When critiquing a mix of this song, the very first thing I look at is how the acoustic guitar was handled. That track is in
abysmal condition, and it stands on its own at the very beginning of the song; if
that sounds good, I
know the mixer knows his stuff.
Not only do you know your stuff, you even managed to add
texture to the track; it actually has
stereo presence! Don't know how you did that but my hat's off to you for being able to make that acoustic guitar sound so freakin' awesome!
In fact, aside from the second set of vocals being
way too loud (kinda startled me when they kicked in) this mix was just a total joy to listen to, start to finish. With the hiss still intact, it couldn't help bring back some of the warm fuzzies of nostalgia for me, listening to my grandfather's rather extensive collection of 8-tracks, right down to the nice smooth bass.
My only complaint is: where are the bongos? I liked them but you seem to have either set them
way down in the mix or removed them entirely.
This is
not an easy multitrack to make sound good. My sincere respect on a fantastic job!
