Still Flying
#1
Tough mix

For the first mix I used Neutron and this was the first time I've used this plugin and overall I can see a lot of benefits as far as channel strip goes.

I would not use this plugin as a go too or even across the board for that matter.

The strength of this plugin is that it uses marginal cpu and you can make adjustments to two tracks at once.

The downfall is that it seems to stifle dynamics when used on every channel and everything starts to sound homogeneous.

The track assistant is great but not a go to, but for when you just want a second opinion.

I am not happy with my mix what so ever and I am not sure if I could even do any better, but I'm not willing to spend the time figuring that out. (OR SO I THOUGHT)

Still Flying has beat me down. Good song but it seems like ten tons of stuff in a five pound bag. Also, the fact that I had to adjust the timing of the guitars and automate the hell out of the vocals and everything else made for an arduous mixing experience. I was often wondering is having all of the extra ambient tracks even beneficial to the song, but its not my song to pick and choose what I think should be there.

On the second mix, I got rid of Nuetron and used Softube C1 and did a few things differently. I have to say I'm glad I did, because the mix is much better than my first miserable attempt.

On mix 3 I adjusted the overall levels on certain things, low pass shelving on the synth trks and added a few fades on reverb tails and what not. I also added Satin to the master buss and used Izotopes Maximiser. I hope

Cheers.
