Last one - time to rest my head with this song. I have it buzzing around in there when I'm trying to sleep!
I worked out a two step process to give the drums a little more impact - I think they have worked. They are very subtle but have given them a little more 'oomph' in the mix.
Pulling down the level of the room mic channel a tad* pulled the focus back to the drier close snare mic channel and then raising the parallel compression buss just a tad* put the skinned drums a little more forward in the mix.
(* = NOTE to the new engineers amongst us: a "tad" is a technical term defining a small quantity. It is less than a "bit" and more than a "bee' s ----")
Artbass, I couldn't really hear that low/mid imbalance (your ears are much better than mine - look after them!!), but you did get me to check that the two panned guitars were more balanced frequency-wise.
Soloed they are now a bit more even in that frequency region so hopefully the issue you identified has been alleviated.
Thanks again!
