drums are totally tight but way too big. I think the recording and the the drummer makes a mixer want to mix it like big rock drums, which takes away from the nuance of the singer and the R/B. I think the mix has a good overall balance and it stands out.
Great work! I like the overall balance pretty much.
I compared to similar music e.g. Aretha Franklin, here are my suggestions:
- voice should be louder
- more effects like reverb/delay
- kick is quite in your face and fighting the vocal
