Hey guys, Been a while since i have done any tools mixing so i thought id challenge myself by doing a mix in 45 mins.
From importing files and mixing, this is how far i got, let me know what you think.
Cheers, LH
There are some good things about that mix. It seems like you spent most (if not all) of your 45 minutes riding a fader rather than tweaking the sounds, which is a good thing !
However, the low end is a bit overwhelming and blurs the whole mix making it seem dull. Especially the vocals are taking a hit.
I think the guitars are a little too shy overall, mostly when there is a "lift" in the song (the choruses or the "blast" part with the distorted vocals).
Also it seems there is a big reverb or something in the background that throws another layer of fog over the mix.
The "blast" part sounds lower than what's coming before it and it feels weird as there's an obvious increase in energy in the composition/arrangement that your moves have not followed.
During the break before the soli, I find the hat to be way too loud. In fact it's the loudest part during that part while the vocals and drums are buried deep under.
The first solo line after that break doesn't hit hard enough and hinders the impact. The second part of the solo feels weird because you put the backing vocals way louder than the guitar and it doesn't really holds the listener attention on it. As a result, that part is a bit distracting and kicked me out of the mix.
The last part with vocals and solo guitar is also a bit confused as the balance between the two is not really clear. I didn't know what to listen and at the end the solo drops in level and is frustrating because nothing really stands up to hold the attention.
Otherwise there are a few places where it would have been interesting to push some guitar phrases or drums pattern to create forward motion.

All in all, it's a good rough Smile
thx globule, couldn't say it better then you. this mix needs more separation and you should really get your focus right. something is wrong if a choir is louder then the solo guitar that it was meant to support Smile
