An attempt was made. I was a little lazy, I'll admit. It's probably a bit bright.
Anyway,
Hi Roy!
That intro wasn't expected. Simple but very creative.
I liked the backing vocals with that impact.
Feels to me nice balanced. but i think that the solo gtr hears to me a bit dry.
I liked the "personality" of the mix. The overs at the end of the track seems to me that need a bit of work.
But great job man!
Cheers!

Thanks for listening. Yeah, I fought a bit with the solo guitar. I brought the effects way back on it to keep it cleaner due to the fast playing. There is some stereo delay and an automated wah that doesn't really stand out but adds some tone.

I'll admit with being a bit lazy with the overheads at the end. I was never happy wit them.

Cheers.

I hear you on the subject of the overs, but to me in general with the drums. I think the performance could be a bit better and i don't know why they recorded a mono room track and not a stereo one, and by the way in some parts of the mono room mic it sounded saturated. But at the end it was a good challenge. And yeah, the gtr solo wasn't easy for sure.
Cheers!

I dunno. I'd rather a mono room track as opposed to a bad stereo track. Ideally, a M/S stereo track so one has the best options with the room mic and also mono capability. But, oh well. It all depends on the room and whatnot.
Also, I wasn't thinking a the time but yeah, these seem to be electronic drums. So, don't worry so much about the room.
Hey, Roy. I've noticed you've been pretty hands on with this song giving others critiques and feedback on their mix of it...I saw that you gave it a shot yourself and was eager to hear your take on it. Despite your criticisms of my performance/song writing of this song, I must say, I'm very impressed with your take on this mix. I even did an A/B comparison with my original mix and I find myself going back and forth on whether I prefer my mix or yours! The main difference I notice, is you have that nice scoop in the mids which sounds great...we definitely used different reference tracks and had different visions for how the song should be mixed, but I'm impressed with your work. I figured I'd just chime in and give kudos to my harshest critic!

Sorry for the late reply. I'm having internet issues so I'm a bit spotty.

First of all, thanks for the kudos. If it helps offset any harsh criticism I may have had, I did work on it and gave it a fair shot because it deserved it.

Maybe it's the old engineer in me. There has always been some punting some sass back down the line. And I generally am mostly jerk in the times when someone or something deserves it. I respect it enough to say something. If that makes sense.

Yes, I have some issues with the song over all. I can't recall what for the most part besides the vocals. They felt, in my opinion, a bit "in the chest" and didn't 'project'. Beyond that, I don't know what I may have had issues with but feel free to call them out. In the end, It's a competent recording. I've uploaded worse! I know I, as well as others are very grateful for the tracks you've uploaded. I think having an eye on recording or composition choices are valid don't feel like it was personal at any level. Some may have done things differently or made different choices but the vast majority did nothing at all so you should be commended.

In the end, it was a very enjoyable track to mix. Also, it brought up a lot of memories of Thrash that I haven't listened too in a long time.

Cheers!
I like the snare smack, man. After listening to it I just let mine rip Smile. I agree with you on the brightness. Maybe the smack of the snare has something to do with it. I love it but would ask for a little more meat on the bones (kick/snare). But it's just me; I am mostly a carnivore.

How dare you! The snare, she was mixed perfectly, with care, craft and concern.

I kid, of course. Could you imagine! To be so upset....

Anyway. You may be right about the K/S. I should give it another listen. I may tend towards lean drums. They may need protein.

That said, eat your vegetables. They're good for you. It's all part of a balanced diet. That applies to mixing as well.

I like analogies.
