It's been quite a while since my last mix here ... anyhow, this is where I landed on this one ...

Hi!

Apologies for commenting a bit late here. Good mix overall. I guess we do differ on matters of taste - for me the vocal and solo are perhaps a bit forward here for me. Nit pick - I might high pass the low end of the snare a hair.

Personally I would perhaps aim for around -7 to -8 LUFS though, rather than -14. The streaming services don't add any extra limiting, they just turn the mix up or down. Your mix will sound a little weak if you do some referencing (level matched). For me -14 is ok for jazz and classical. With a bit of limiting squeeze I feel you get a better mid range and a more powerful consolidated mix for this genre. I also find it will also help to highlight any mix issues.

I've not done this for a while, it's worth checking out and comparing say the current top ten rock songs or whatever without the streaming level adjustment and see what LUFS ranges you come up with. Also compare the mixes level matched - I usually adjust to -6 when referencing.

Cheers!

Can I ask what playout system(s) you are using (make/model)?  Also, what are you using to check for translation?  Added to this interrogation, is knowing your mix levels and how you assess them technically?
Not bad. I hear the low end in the bass, but not the kick. Maybe bring up 60 hz on the kick until it's even with the bass. It's a tricky balance, but with a little trial and error, an easy fix. The vocals are a bit dry for the genre and could use some compression. Maybe a classic plate delayed 120 ms.
Good balances otherwise.
