Another creative treat from Fytakyte. A great arrangement, beautifully produced and well performed.

I have followed the path others have chosen for this song and I am including both the pre-mastered mix and the mastered mix. It's revealing.

No special tricks needed here, just some minor creativity with some tracks and automation.
I used an SSL E console template (by Waves) for this mix and I really liked how the channel/bus strip performed with enough electricity and control to bring out the song as I heard it.
My master bus consisted of a four-band stock PreSonus EQ for over-all sweetening, followed by The Glue with the limiter on. That's it.

The master is using a stock PreSonus ProEQ followed by the TDR Limiter 6 GE. This wonderful device has Compression, HF Limiter, Clipper, Peak Limiter and PCM Limiter modules with all kinds of subtle adjustments in each.

Thanks to Andrew for another great work. I hope you enjoy my interpretation.

Unmastered 4 and Mastered 5

This is an evolved mix based on your comments and presented as unmastered and mastered versions. These mixes are quite present with a low-level listening loudness approach. Please adjust your playback volume accordingly. Thanks.

Mastered 6

After some good comments pointing to the difficulties I was having with the vocals, I had all but given up. But a very timely webcast from Mark Daniel was just what the doctor ordered. I believe I have the impact I wanted in the ensemble and the clarity on the background vocals they deserve. I don't know. What do you think?

Mix well and mix often,

I listened to the mastered version. It has a nice pump to it but isn't 'pumpy'. I find the guitars in the chorus to be a bit loud and disconnected mostly the guitar on the right. Also in the solo section.
I think the issues that jumped out to me is mostly centered around the vocals. They sometimes feel buried or overwhelmed by everything else going on. It's just a fairly busy song which I think is one of its strengths but can be tricky to deal with. I also feel like the vocals are a bit sibilant, especially near the end when all the background vocals are hitting the esses at the same time. Then again, it might just be me being overly sensitive to sibilants. I feel like every mix of this one is fairly sibilant. Beyond that, the mix overall feels good tonally.

I appreciate the dynamics between sections. It is a dynamic song and I feel like most here have generally flattened it, myself included.

Hey Roy,
Thanks for the listen and the comments. Agreed about the vocals getting buried and a bit sibilant. Please have another listen as I have updated both files to fix the vocals from getting lost at times.

Snare could benefit from some high end boost. It kinda gets lost in the chorus

I'll take a listen. Thanks. Automation maybe, or content?
What Ricks tells you is that you raise the frequencies of the snare above 7000hz, the toms and hi hats, I love the Amber plugin from Acustica for that purpose, you can download it for a very long period. I would also use a deesser for vocals. Otherwise the mix sounds pretty good.

The chorus is too hard for me, smooth the angle a bit.
Thanks for your comment. The panned vocal was designed as the listener's conscience sitting on their shoulder whispering in their ear. In the new mix I moved that voice to the left.

Check out the new mixes for the new chorus treatments.

Tete,
I have addressed the top end of the drums in the new mixes. The snare was addressed by raising the bottom snare mic level. The toms were addressed with EQ on the toms sub group. Have a new listen and thanks for the input.
<<The chorus is still problematic, the guitars especially, they are mid high burning my eardrums and covering vocal as well.

for the added vox left or right I would try something else at least for a pro release, that’s not completely wrong but if you aim for industry finish   product that’s not cutting it I think, and also I think you could reduce some bass from it if you keep it on the side.>>
Unfortunately, I agree. I am having/had a tough time with the chorus vocals, especially at the end of the song. Too thick and no articulation. I liked the impact, but the over-all solution is not the best for the song. I think I'll have to accept that I missed this one.  Having said that and listening to my first one or two mixes of this song, they are much better than the minutia I was chasing in the later ones. I guess knowing when to stop is a large part of this skill set.

Thanks for your comments.
Hi Mtc i like the vocals on first mix,i think a bit of automation would be great, good job though.
