A great song, with great performers and a great recording. A real pleasure to mix !
I have chosen to go with the mike tracks and left apart the DI and trigger tracks, as the mikes sound really good by themselves and I wanted to keep the raw energy without adding more complexity.
I have group mixed the different mikes of each instrument to reach the sound I wanted, and then treated the groups. Nothing fancy for EQ and compression as the takes were really nice. I have just cleaned the tracks, removed some harshness and controlled the dynamic.
Everything was so far not too difficult, excepted for the voice which needed a lot of volume automation to sit on top of the mix. I have almost automatized the voice word by word to reach consistency before compression. I have also added a fair amount of distorsion.
I have heavily automated the guitars pan and voice FX to give movement to the song and keep some energy / headroom for the climax.
