I went for a more garage-y mid-forward sound.  I have no idea what the norms in the genre are, but when I think of hardcore I think of the garage sound.

For me, all the dirt and aggression lives in that midrange!
I think you could get this sound without the sacrifice of the highs. Although in this case, the mastering engineer would make sure the highs is in the right place. Solid mix all in all.
