Hello. Here's my 2-3 hour mix from this tune. I had little problems with the kick drum so I quickly added some 808 and Linn kicks on top of the original. The vocals here were quite dark so it was tough balancing between intelligibility vs harshness.
Wow! I'm impressed! First thing I noticed is how big the instrumental is. Very nice use of the synth! I really like the auto-tune on the chorus, it's the perfect amount. The amp on the ad-lib is cool, I wish I would've thought about that. And what is that sound at the end, it's like a bell or something? I like it.

The vox were tracked in a room with no treatment except for an AE-F Pro from Soundkitz. Mic placement could have been better and unfortunately some mics just don't play well with some voices. But that was well over a year ago. I've learned a lot since then.

Anyways, great mix!

Thanks! Smile

The auto-tunes are set on "little over-the-top settings", like an effect of it's own. It seems to emphasize the "pop" aspect of the chorus nicely.

I'm hearing this "amp" thingy quite a lot on Kanye West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" (which is probably my favourite recent hip-hop album production-wise).

The "bell" sound is actually just the melody piano pitch shifted one octave up (with some artifacts kept intact, I'm a sucker for glitchy sounds) with some added delays. I felt the last chorus needed like a small last straw to really push it up to eleven so I came up with that.

I guess I wasn't necessarily referring the mic placement and such, but more about the emcees themselves. It seems to me one can get technically really decent vocal recordings with simply singing close enough to the mic and not recording in a one square meter cement closet Big Grin. After that it's all about the vocalists. I guess I felt the rappers could benefit couple of vocal lessons to get their voices "heard".
Interesting and good mix. You have nicely made mood changes to this song. It's easier to listen as it don't become so monotoneous.

I'm not sure if it's typical to rap music, but to me this sounds quite heavily overcompressed. I must really study this area more before I make any more comments Smile.
Great sounding mix
Really effective production, it brings the track to life.
Its great ,i just think its all a bit harsh maybe.
Hey Spede, great work as usual. Great dynamics in this, like how it all drops down for the verses. You've worked magic on the vocals, would love to know how you de-essed them, the sibilance on the original was a huge pain in the arse for me. Nice little synth thing works well at the end, nice touch. Good stuff mate.
wow!! this is impressive!!! congratulations!!!
Great ! I wouldnt mind you mixin some of my songs :-)
Sounds big and you keep the listeners attention all the way through.
