Hmm. Sounds like the bottom snare mic should go down? Nice effects with the guitar and mandolin. Somehow the mandonlin has almost piano like sound in some parts. ^_^

Hey Don,

Listened to mix 2. I think that the rhythm section is balanced nicely - being a country rock/pop song, a strong bass is part of that genre's DNA. I also like the guitar effect (phase, flange or something ?) and the vocals sound good too - which isn't easy so well done on all that.

little things that make me want to reach for the console - verse vox needs a push, especially verse 1( 2-3 db). You have such a strong rhythm section that you can easily do this.

Maybe guitar solo needs a push also, or it could be the fx, as it sounds a bit like he's playing way behind the band. I think that works fine during rest of song. Maybe automate (more) reduction in fx for solo so he takes a step forward.

Good work on a tricky mix!

Cheers, Simon

I think vox and gtr levels sit better now - at least on my monitors Smile
Hi don v3 for me,i dont know if its me but the guitar seems a little bit "scratchy" still translate well though.
Thedon

I like V3 the best. Energy and vibe is real cool. The guitar is a bit too loud overall in my opinion and fighting the lead vocal in spots. The tone is good especially in the solo. Might try side chaining a compressor or EQ off the Vox to pull some 2k area down in the guitar.

Also, might try pulling some 600 out of the lead vox.

Nice job.
V3 for me, Don. Not really anything taking an ice-pick in my ears. Nicely balanced and sounding pretty darn good at this end. If I was to be really nit-picky (and I mean really nit-picky), I'd be inclined to look at 600Hz area in the lead vocal too as suggested by Rook. Other than that, it's two thumbs up.
