This was my first mix in Cubase SE that I finally found again.
Fitting to the project, I had downloaded some old plugins I've used long time ago. So I decided to use them on this "test run".

I always like to get my "own" sound, no matter what kind the tracks are. So here I put the guitars and bass through an amp simulator, despite the fact that they've already gone through one.
Since I had the idea to take this to a little different direction, I made the rhythm guitars scooped.

The first "draft" of sound I had with this idea is the one you can hear in the start. But since that became a bit too scooped, I made the other set scooped on a different channel of the amp sim. And that sound is the dominant one here.
I panned one set of the guitars to the far ends of the stereo image, and the second one halfway. Wanted to make it big and wide.

Lead guitar has my basic EQ I like to use; little low end, much of mids and in this case lots of highs too, more than I usually use.
Also some reverb from the amp sim and brightness-setting on to make it cut through the mix. But I think the reverb made it subtle enough so it's not harsh.

Because the guitars are scooped, I pushed the bass on the mid range, so it's kind of thin here but fits in the sound spectrum.

Drums were very tricky, especially the bassdrum. I wanted to try something new for me, so I used some filtering on the drums. Cymbals have only EQ on them.
I got the bassdrum big and loose, but needed to boost some high frequencies so that it wouldn't be complete inaudible.

Didn't do much to the vocals, some compression and panning. Put 2 and 2 tracks of the backing vocals to the sides and one I tuned down an octave and added some distortion to it, but it's only a subtle effect track here.

The vocal tracks sounded a bit dull to me, but I left the backing vocals pretty much alone. The lead vocals got some treatment though. I used some compression, reverb and character booster on the track.
The booster was used to boost high frequencies and reverb was used to give it some colour.

I think I got a pretty balanced mix as a result of this experience.
Enjoy and feedback is always welcome.
