Giving Slate VMR, VCC, and VTM a whirl on 'What I Want'
#1
Here's a quick mix I did using the new VMR along with VCC and VTM on every track. I would love to know what you guys think. Thanks! Paul

Doesn't seem to be a lot of continuity with all the pieces. Everything sounds separate from each other.

Thank you for your feedback, I really appreciate it! I actually worked really hard on separation and giving each instrument it's own sonic space.

There is a build up around 400Hz bass/kick/gtr. Lead vox feels very dry and forward compared to the bg Vox. Overall there is no bounce with the drum and bass it feels flat. Make the song exciting by not squishing all the dynamics out do the bass and drums. Use a slower attack and quicker release. Nice spread and relative levels. Work with the compression and reverb a bit and it will come alive.

Check out Fab Dupont on YouTube. He has some excellent advice for the use of reverb.
