#1
Had to go listen to some Rock En Español on youtube for this one.
too harsh on the top??

v2 Some changes in eq and balancing on some tracks. took a bit less uper mids from some tracks and  eq kick differently. Dialed back reverb on bass a bit too.
better?

Sounding pretty good. The upper mids of the guitars are masking the vocal and synth, they are quite harsh, if I hadn't heard this before I don't think I'd realise there was a synth in the choruses. The snare is a bit weak and the high hats have been high-passed to the point where they've lost their voice and articulation.

Generally good though, and pretty close to solid. Everything other than the things listed above sounded good to me.

Agreed. I'll go back and tame those upper mids on the guitar. As for the hihat I didn't use the track much is mainly overhead sand room mics for it. The cymbals were so low in the recording that I did some magictricsk between the overheads and room tracks to get them to come more forward.

Thanks for the input!

I do think the synth is a bit quiet in the choruses. To be fair, and this is something that missed me in my first passes, the synth is louder "on tape" in the 1st section as opposed to the choruses. So there has to be some automation done. That said, I don't know if I care if its buried in those sections or not. I'd err on it being quieter and of of the way of the vocals than not.

I'm not sure it's so much the guitars being harsh as everything just being in the 2.5/ 3 khz range. At least, in the choruses.

I personally don't find the snare weak but the crack seems to be in that upper mid range.

Everything, including the bass guitar, seems to be competing for that small piece of, exciting, real estate.

It feels well done but could use some tweaks to get the part to sit in their own space.

Cheers

Since hearing Shul's reference, I agree.

Sounding really good!

Everything is great to my ears except the guitars are being masked, especially by the synth, so I can't really hear what chords are being played.  They're tough - myself and a few others have struggled with those guitars!

That's the only thing left that I can hear, it's sounding great, the snare has a bit more low mid punch, I much prefer the bass tone, and the levels are all working really well.

Listening to ver2. The overall tone and balance is great nothing really poking out. Nothing really to critique here but Ive got a few thoughts.

Some more automation could have been carried out throughout the intro and b sections.

- The intro is pretty standard but no real image is bring painted here

- When the track kicks in at first I would have liked to be more introduced to the main synth

- First verse the vocal hall reverb seems really out of place due to the rest of the band being dry at the moment

Overall these things could be ironed out with some automation between sections to prevent this kind of static sound. EQ, Compression etc is being used well here. Just need the mood to change through sections.

Thanks for input. I mix on headphones so sometimes my reverbs are not really well done because when on headphones reverbs lie a lot. Sometimes I think its not a lot but then when I listen to the mix in the car the reverb sounds nasty.
I'll keep those points in mind on my next revision.

hi man.
just checking the second version.
pretty solid one, good balance.
in my personal choice i would like to keep the bass a bit down and a bit less present to have the rest of the instruments with more detail.
and i also would like to hear a bit more the tom feel in the track, i feel it a bit loose.
other than that, pretty cool work.
cheers!
