MIX NOTES
- Lots of editing on the vocals to remove the breaths and a little clip gaining for some parts. Serial compression and de-essing all around. Also used Cubase's "Audio Alignment" tool for the first time which I didn't know existed until recently.
- Worked on the balance quite a bit but fell short in some areas explained further below
- I usually try to use Mike's Full Preview track or someone else's uploaded mix simply as a comparison check before posting my mix but this time I did make changes after referencing; I guess you could say my initial mix was "decent" but it still wasn't sitting right
- After referencing Mike's mix I made the following changes:
- 200hz region and below had to come up 1-2db
- vocals brought down 2db
- clap brought down 3db
- ElecPiano +4db and Synth +2db
- Overall my bass and subs were close; the low mids of the tonal instruments (synth, pad, piano) were weak; vocals and clap were obviously too loud (after mastering the clap seems to have come up again lol)
- The low mids I still tend to clean too much in search of brightness which I need to work on
