Thanks for the comments! I wish I had used my headphones on the early mixes, I might have noticed the issues sooner then
It was a combination of things that got me on the wrong track early. Main thing was not being used to how much bass my speakers had. It was my first mix and first real use of the speakers (nothing amazing, just some Kurzweil KS-40A). I'm starting to get used to the bass they throw out now, and double checking on headphones and ear buds helps!
It's amazing how quickly I'm improving, even my r3 sounds weak to me now after another few days mixing and learning. I'm glad I picked this song to do first though, I've learnt more getting this wrong and trying again, than on the other songs where things went smoother!
