Well Logic started as all MIDI Notator Logic for Atari back in the day, Apple bought it around 2005 and first build on top o the old engine and started all over in 8 I think.
Im still on 7 :-)
One o my old students had Logic 5 for windows. actually thats why I bought it years ago.
Old ears, old gear, little boy inside love music and sounds and my wife, not necessarily in that order

I've been using Pro Tools 10 years. I think it's quite new feature. Maybe it came with version 9 or 10. One must activate it View > Gain > Clip Gain Line. Then the clips in the edit window has similar lines as the volume automation tool.

I think it's very precise tool. For example I can easily use it to solve some difficult ess-sounds in vocals, if de-esser plugin can't handle it correctly.
