Hi Monk,
Very interesting intro idea. Works well. I really like the arrangment tweaks you made.
The individual sounds are fine as they are, the mix overall lacks bottom end and has to much mids.

Cheers,

Thanks LukeL. There's bottom and it's subdued, I just need to fade it up and tweak some EQ to also help it carry over small speakers while getting a bit of attack going (kick and bass gtr). I wonder though, if your comments have taken into account the impact on perception of the rest of the mix when the bottom end is present in measures we are normally familiar with???

There's some other things that need attending to.  If anyone wants to flag them up, feel free to shout as there's most likely points I'm not be aware of!

So much time was spent hacking the arrangement into something that for me, brought better transitions, lost some monotony and brought out interesting aspects that tended to get masked in the original production “values”. It was quite a challenge – synth4 was truly problematic; it still needs more work.  I'm not sure I will finish the mix because I got the vision out for the basis, which was my main goal. That said, I'm really not happy with the outro because it's not an outro!  However, since tweaking on a revisit, it started to sound more appropriate to my needs but it's not in this post.

I had a quick listen to yours and will drop some feedback later, but I will flag up meanwhile that you have no sub bass – no fundamentals.  The bass gtr in general comes and goes, a factor of masking depending what's going on around at the time. It also doesn't translate well enough on a small speaker with consistency.  The low-mids also feel congested.  If you decide to fix the sub bass issues, you will need to re-evaluate the low mids at a minimum. Are you on headphones, because there's some clues that make me think that?

Thanks for listening.

Minor tweaks while it's still on the machine

Cool mix! How did you get the snare to have so much impact/snap?

Thanks for taking a listen and dropping a line.
The answer is a simple one. I mixed everything. But the explanation of what I did is complicated and long forgotten anyway. I don't think it would help sharing, because all projects are different and each requires a specific approach which is entirely bespoke. That's why tips and tricks and how-to's are useless.

@leosoasan I don't use drum samples. If you have to, then there's a 99.9999 percent probability that something's wrong elsewhere in the mix.
