Signe, I'm a sucker for you!

I'm sorry, but I have to get this of my chest ...

These drum track, and a couple of the BGVs ... I cannot for the life of me get my head around why on eath anyone would do that??!! Somebody got this great opportunity to record this great song, not to speak of incredible vocal performance, and this is what that person did to it?! What the F!? If that isn't taking a crap on, may I assume, a serious artist, then I don't know what is. That person should be ashamed .... ASHAMED! Yeah yeah, "it can be replaced with sample".Sure, and while we're at it, why not replace the entire band with samples then?! And yeah, there's a reason the singer sings the entire word, not just the beginning and the middle of it, so no, you should NOT cut if off half way through. Ever heard of the a do-over? This is not cool, dude, that's all I'm saying, not cool! End of rant
.
This song is just awesome, and what an amazing vocal perforrmance. I'm drawn in! Yeah, I'm a sucker for these naive pseudo hard rock songs, I guess it's kind of a guilty pleasure ... Wink

The tracks were already broken, so I abandonned the idea of having a real serious go at this, and instead ended up playing with a buch of vocal stuff. Somewhere inbetween the hardship, it was ... sorta fun.

Update v2
Aimed for a more punchy snare, more bass in verse and a more distinct verse vocal

Hi!

I feel we are lucky to have all these tracks to mix, and it's nice to have a challenge don't you think? Did you read the SOS article relating to this track? it gives a bit of background as to how this track was put together.

I think the intro/verse vocal tone and reverb blends the vocals too well with the guitars and they get a bit lost for me. Might be a taste thing, but I feel you could probably get them a bit clearer and more upfront - more current pop music style perhaps?

Verse bass part could poke out a bit more too I think and have a bit more weight to anchor the thing?

The chorus vocals are much better, and I like the way it hits.

The lead guitar part could be louder in the mix too for me. It gets a bit lost and could be more up there.

(Taste thing - I really am not a fan of the bridge adlib vocals).

Snare could be a touch punchier maybe to match the kind of funk guitar thing thats going on?

Yeah the main thing for me is those verse vocals. I enjoyed the mix otherwise, and it sounds pretty cohesive. The chorus is really good, and kicks in well.

It seems like it's been a while since I mixed this but yeah, I think I felt it required some drum replacement and some re-arranging. I think I ditched a couple of parts that I felt didn't quite work, or were a bit too cliched even for me. Oh, I think I also copied the first verse guitar part to the second verse too, as I didn't like that 2nd verse guitar bit as much. I think it was a bit of work but quite fun all the same. Luckily the track is under 3 minutes, so it's not really that much to play about and tweak.

Well, I am certainly no expert but hope this is of some use.

Cheers!

Hi Mike

Thanks for the inpu, it truly aappreciate your time. I am definitly not done with this baby, so I will look into it. Besides, I have some issues with the vocal treatment that I'd like to address.

I did have a glance at the article, and I understand the reason for the tracks being as they are. However, that doesn't change the fact that I find it a shame, because it is a really nice song, and, at least I think so, a really strong vocal performance, which, in my mind, deserves better, hence my frustration.

Cheers

Hi!

Sorry, it seems to have taken me a while for me to check back.

Vocal clarity, etc much better for me in V2.

I feel the balance could do with some tweaking though. Might be difficult to judge just using headphones.

I think the Vocal is a touch too upfront in the intro compared to the drums and the guitar for me. Maybe more guitar and drums and a bit less vocal there perhaps? The chorus is better balanced but think still could do with some more drums.

I am kind of using the ref track as a guide here for balance. I still really like the feel of the chorus, especially the guitars. Yeah, I think this is shaping up to be a pretty good mix, but for me could do with some balance adjustment automation.

I do agree with you that it's a good song and vocal.

Cheers!
