The Brew - What I Want (Mix and Master by Alex Jeffries)
#1
It's been a while since I've had a go at one of these... so I've taken this opportunity to play around with some new plugins and ideas!

Love the vibe of this track, got an idea of how I wanted this track to sound after a quick balance.

A few things to note:
I did enhance the kick and snare with some GGD samples using Slate Trigger 2, just to give them that bit more weight and reduce the sound of that super "ringy" snare sound.

I feel like there was a really tricky balancing act with the keys and guitar on this track - I opted to push the keys up possibly that bit more than other mixes I've heard.

In both the pre-choruses I wanted the energy to drop slightly so I applied a telephone style EQ to vocals, so that I had somewhere to go back up when the chorus hit. Also, for the chorus I pushed in the doubles up 4-6dB just to give a bit more energy.

Another cool thing I tried was side-chaining the vocal delays to the dry vocals, so that these were only really present during the gaps in the vocals I wanted to highlight.

If you guys have any questions about my mixing decisions, plugin chains, or any feedback, please feel free to drop me a line!

I'll be checking into the other posts to see what I can learn from everyone else's mixes!

Here's a little idea of how I setup my session:

Thanks for reading and listening,
Alex
