Mix and master of Peace of me by Darkride band
#1
Hello guys, this is my mix master of the song.
My policy is avoiding samples and vitalizers.
This mix is not for YT upload coz the LUFS are so high.
Have a nice day!

Hey,

for this genre and this song, you probably need a different snare sound. Your snare sounds thin and bright compared with other bands in this genre, and as the artist, I would urge you to mix the song so that we sound competitive. I would probably give you ref tracks like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPW9AbRMwFU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ND4gv1Zo0Zs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Xfvk028Kv0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0wbyQRRQJA

Your snare lacks body and weight when compared with those bands, and it also sticks out too much of the mix and doesn't really gel with the rest of the drumkit. It almost sounds like you don't have a "Snare Room" track in your mix that usually adds the needed weight to the snare. You can hear that especially at 2:50. A suitable snare sample that's blended into the mix can also add the weight that's needed. Automate the level of the sample track for more punch in heavier passages and less weight in softer parts and everybody will be happy Smile

Sorry I've written so much on the subject. It's really the only thing I noticed, but it's a very important part of the overall sound that you have to get 100% right as a mixer. Fix the snare and you have a pretty fine mix with good balance and tasteful, musical choices.

I know that feeling all too well Smile I´m mixing a song from an 80ies metal band at the moment and was very happy with my first rough mix a week ago. Superfat drums, roaring guitars, it was one of the best mixes I´ve done. It was a really heavy, tight & modern metal mix and I was extremely proud of myself.

The feedback I got was: "It sounds too modern, especially the guitars. They don't sound creamy, like Savatage or Maiden. Please make everything less polished."

After fiddling around with all kinds of amp sims and eq and compression settings for the drums I went straight back to my initial guitar amps (Archetyp: Nolly and Fortin Nameless), turned all knobs to 10 with no boost pedal in front of the amp, added reverb to drums and guitars and - as an icing on the cake - also added a chorus to the rhythm guitars. Today I got this feedback:

THANK YOU!!!!!! YOU NAILED IT!!!!

Well, okay, if they like it that way they can have it that way... but I will definitely keep my first mix Smile

some adjustments to my mix/master: guitars cleared, snare punched, then some glue to the mix...
i think the result is punchy and clear as i like!
