Tall Heights: 'Spirit Cold'
#1
Here is Version 1 of this lovely song !
Gave myself a little challenge.
Mixed on reaper using only reaper limitor in master bus, Tokyo Dawn Nova TDR on all tracks for eq ,dynamic eq and compressiom.
Ferix and omniverb.

Used the accoustic guitar track as the foundation and added all the other tarcks to it !

Here is a screenshot of a quick mix track breakdown to explain what I did !

Hi Thedon,

Very solid mix! It works fine focusing it around the guitar, since it has the main voice as well. Maybe a little 1.5Khz too much in the voice? Probably not always, just at some points.

Very nice progression to the loudest part and back. Good job overall, just see if placing a dynamic eq in the voice helps.
ITB Setup: Reaper, Airwindows, IK Multimedia TR5, XLN AD2 ATrigger and RC-20, Waves.
Monitoring: Dynaudio BM5 mkIII, Behritone, Sennheiser HD 650. Semi-treated room.

Hi Don!

I loved this track, and I really like your take on it.

Based on what was said by others, I think one of the reasons you let the vox get a little peaky is (as I said in Octopus's thread) this track really can build up low end REALLY quickly, and I think you were trying to get it above the low frequencies of the song.

Maybe you're hitting a buss compressor a little hard too?

Just a couple of thoughts, and of course, as always, my thoughts on this are subjective!
