Don't Put Me On Hold - Final
#1
Well this was a fun one, especially if you're a Philly boy like me. So I gave it my best Gamble & Huff in a relatively quick get for me. It's kind of thick around the middle and maybe the drums are too present in places, but I like the feel and the groove of it and I hope you do to.

Any comments or impressions, questions or compliments are always appreciated.

Happy listening,
MITC

Don't Put Me On Hold - Pass 1
11/3/2017

Don't Put Me On Hold - Pass 2
11/3/2017

This is just a remastering of the same mix as above but with some woofy lows filtered while still trying to maintain tone in the low end. Not sure I'm quite there yet, What do you think?

Don't Put Me On Hold - Pass 4
11/6/2017

Used multi-band compression on the master to give more depth to the bottom while trying to minimize low-mid honk. This is a new mix.

Don't Put Me On Hold - Pass 5
11/6/2017

Dumped the dynamic and went with filtering and parallel compression mods. I think it gives the full bottom without the woof.

Don't Put Me On Hold - Pass 6
11/7/2017

I just couldn't leave well enough alone and after doing some reference listening to the likes of Boz Skaggs and Sanford and Townsend, I went to the mat again on this with a new mix and new master. Tightened everything I could tighten to ring every ring out of the tracks and ring every ounce of punch and pop and tone I could muster out of the song at the same time. I got closer to what I was hearing in my head with this. Not sure why I struggled so much with it.

I'd love to know what you think of the various versions.

Which one is your favorite and what did you listen to it on?

Happy Listening,
MITC

Hey Adam,

very nice mix, here are my thoughts

What I'd change:
- The toms at the start kinda disappear
- More snappy punch in the drums
- A bit heavy on the lower mids, could use a bit more clarity
What I like:
+ Overall Levels and Tonal Balance
+ Dynamics
+ Great Sounding Vocals, Brass and Keys

Will be doing this mix myself in a few days, I hope you can give your opinion as well.

Cheers, LukasAngel

Nicely done. You captured the Philly vibe with a taste of the 60's/70's. I like it. It's nice to hear some horns!

We're all just a bunch of freqs in this crazy world.

If I didn't they might mug me the next time I go back home. Plus I'm an ex bone player.

Thanks for the nice words. Did the mix seem too thick to you?

Listening to version 2 , Sounds great I love the big sound especially the huge drums ,at first I thought the kick sounded a touch too heavy but really drives the song along.

Nice one !

Thanks, Don. Been through a few more iterations. I need to put this one to bed and move on to the next one.

Pass 1 and 2 had to much going on in low mids, while Pass 4 almost was a bit empty.

Pass 5 is excellent! Nothing I'd change Big Grin
