Lead Inc - Way Of Live - Luc's mix
#1
Hi fellows,

Here is my try.

Some tricky things in those tracks, where I'm not so sure about.
Would have liked it more if there weren't used gates in the stems.

Comments are welcome, thanks in advance

Cheers,
Luc

Hi Till how are you dude,

Thank you for your kind comment Big Grin

In return: Great song Till and the rest of you guys!!, a syncopic and steamy rock song, well, well, or better: very well done, like that kinda stuff.

Till I asked myself if you recorded with an insert gate or did you prepare the Cambridge MT stems with gated tracks?

While I had to "re-gate" snare up and down for the distinguished roll's you play now and then, and the re- gating of the snare up and down I found hard to do with such a short atack. A bit the same for the toms.

However ín general I'm satisfied with this mix, I will remix from zero for sure while my 'overall satisfaction' about my own mix is 98% and it should be 105% or more at the least Wink

Cheers and cu around,
Luc

Hey Luc, thanks for your kind words.
The stems have been pre-edited, -EQ'd and gated, I wrote that in the general informations thread.. Sorry about that. We literally lost the original, unedited stems.

buuuut we're working on another set of stems for a brand new songs. Much happened since our last recordings so you'll get way better material to work with this time. Stay tuned Smile Can't wait for new mixes myself!

Cheers!

Hello Luc

*Nice harmonies in the vocals Smile did you used melodyne?
*Slight panning on snare right and delay guitar left is quite interesting, however I'm not sure the toms separation work quite well with that technique.
I do understand why you did that though.
*snare needs a bit more rever imho. It's very dry.
*at 4:52 the bass sounds like its playing through a broken amp. I know the fret noise is mainly responsible for this, but I'm not sure if in the mastering limiting this made it more obvious. Gotta check that out. (4:55 to be more exact)
*I believe there is very lil low energy in the mix. a good boost on the bass would be beneficial.
*at 2:07 I believe those guitars lack the power they should have. Not sure if the flanger fx is the best choice here.

This is good but imho it can be improved a bit.
P.s. some of the stuff I said is 100% taste. feel free to ignore.

hope this helps Smile

As pointed out, your harmonies are fantastic. For me, the biggest drawback is the sound of the toms. The gate catches them closed a little too quickly, and they kind of poke out. I think they could be brought down a bit.

The rest sounds really cool man. Great tones.

I agree that a little low end energy could excite your mix a bit.

Good work!

Sorry about the gates. We're keeping an eye on that during our current recordings, you won't have to mess with that anymore.

Hi Shul, thanks for your great comment, really appreciate it!

On this song I used Melodyne only for general tune, nothing special about it, used iZotope Nectar for the harmonies in this case.

You are right about your other comments, this work is certainly worth to improve, I think I'm gonna setup V2 from scrap, in other words, I will totally remix this song in a version V2.

On important thing is that Lead Inc, I mentioned before to Till (Wurstdrummer), drummer of Lead Inc too, that Lead Inc is developing into a grownup great band. I have some connections into earlier work of Lead Inc which now really seem to be outdated, audible in my latest mix.
I will do my best soon, keep in touch.

Cheers,
Luc
