#1
Hello

This is my first mix.

Nothing special, just having a crack at getting everything to sound good

Hi Cecil,
I planned to listen to all the mixes of our song Matterplay present here but all of my time was spent on completing the CD! I can finally do it...

It seems to me your mix is a nice clean mix. The vocals are maybe too "out" for my own tastes, and especially the "Hysteria" vocals in the last bridge and later could need some more delay/reverb stuff to make them more "pleasant". Maybe the issue's is I don't love my own vocals (the call vox on chorus and hysteria vox on bridge), as opposed to our main vocalist vox (all the rest in the song) and I prefer them to be heavily effected.
I also noticed the "bells" sound is a bit subdued.. is it because of difficulty in handling its uneven frequencies or an "aestethic" choice?
That was one of the defining sound of the track (actually it was born around it) and I guess it should be a bit more present.
Sorry if I'm giving more "artistic" feedback than technical...
In that respect maybe I noticed drums on the chorus don' open up enough.. the chorus still kinda works because driven by the vocals

If you like, here's a link to compare with our final version (now mastered) from the CD:

Last, if you are interested in the mixing process of the song, Sound Engineer Mike Senior (of Sound on Sound) who mixed it,
ran a full and fascinating article on Sound on Sound, detailing the challenges he faced and actions required:
