after being 6 years as a musicians in this genre
#1
I've been playing nu metal and death metal for about 6 years
now i'm into mixing these songs
i cut the low frequencies in kick tom bass even in room channels because i think in this genre you can't have a lot of bass in your song because the song is not heavy, its very fast and a lot of bass and a lot of reverb can make your song too dark and turbid
I always put a lot of bass in song and i always put distortion on bass when I'm doing nu metal

so whats your opinion? did i do it right?

Compare your mix with other songs from the black metal department and you'll have the answer Smile

I´m not a huge black metal fan and I only know a handful of songs/bands (Immortal, Behemoth and Keep of Kalessin - and I´m not even sure if KoK is a black metal band). The stuff I know has tons of reverb, no mids Smile and fizzy highs - example:

If you do a quick a/b with the video your mix definitely sounds different. Is it better? Is it worse? I don't know to be honest. As I said I´m not a huge fan of this genre and I don't have any expectations how a black metal song should sound. Guitars could be more upfront & aggressive with less mids if you want to get closer to the stuff I´ve posted. And maybe you should turn down the Overheads by 1-2 db or just automate them when they get too loud (at 0:24). Other then that I like your mix.

i heard those songs and i think i tried not to sound like them
anyone can try to sound like another records and it's very easy to duplicate
but about what i did,i think in MY opinion i was trying to sound different and make new sound and if i fail in it,it's ok Big Grin
