Patrick Talbot - Upper Hand - mix tuned and more
#1
Hi there Music Lovers,

Hi Patrick, again one of your "bedroom" studio productions? Wink Great project!

Here's my mix:

Manually tuned Patrick's lead with melodyne (took me 3 hours Patrick ! Big GrinBig Grin )

Corrected a few snare off beats, hard thing to do with ghost notes which demand an accuracy on one trillionth of a second WinkWink

Corrected a few guitar off beats too.

Off course I appreciate comments very very much.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Luc

Actually, it's a "living room production"! Wink

Good job overall, I have no doubt that correcting some ghost notes and guitar rhythm must have been a lot of work, although I wasn't bothered by them that much TBH. The tuning is fine too, except one or two notes that caught me off-guard where you've chosen a different note than intended. But all of that is taste related of course. YMMV as they say. Big Grin

I think the vocals are too loud in your mix though. Everything else sound rather tiny compared to it. I'm missing some of the punch from the rhythm section and some of the groove from the instruments. Maybe you could try to listen at various volumes and see how the vocals fit in the mix. Some people are using the "whisper" test to make sure the vocal is loud enough, some others are using pink noise to help getting the right level balance, maybe try some of that?

Still, it sounds pretty nice to me. Good job!

Hi Patrick, thanks for your comments, I noticed it too.

Didn't had much time to correct, but I did give it a go, I think this mix suites better Smile

Have uploaded better version (I think)

Luc

Patrick, it was a busy week, but I promise I will adapt a final mix, with your preferences you described. Try to mix it in wk 6.

Sounding pretty good man. I think your BG vox are a little hot. Also, I think your mix might benefit from a touch more glue from your master compressor. For some reason, i hear all of the instruments well enough, but they almost seem seperate from each other. Not completely disconnected, but for some reason. . .I dunno. I am also kind of "in a mood" so that might have something to do with it.

It's really not a bad mix at all. . . just missing something?
