How cool Don. Thanks for giving it a shot. I´d say you have come far for an hour. To me it sounds like you are home after some more eq work. Personally I would cut some low mids and add some air/sparkle. Maybe tame the piano a bit more. He plays a bit too dynamic I think. I can tell he got feeling sitting maybe two and a half meter in front of them. Too bad he slips on some notes. I should have recorded the midi as well. Next time.

G'day Don,
First mix is sounding nice. I think you have handled the choir well. great space and balance. The piano sounds nice but somewhat detached from the performance (like it was recorded in a different room) I'm not sure how you could correct it? I really struggle with pianos and to be honest, not really sure how they should sound within a mix like this. Anyway a great start!
Critical listening of a track like this with only headphones is probably not the right thing to do, so for this I apologise. My quiet time in front of the TV with the kids in bed. lol.

greets,
mix down to mono and see how you feel about the illusion of space, and especially the balance and contrast between the piano and the 'band'.

i'm finding the weight of the lower register hangs a little heavy to one side. great job for an hour though dude Big Grin
