All I know is that this song is anything but 90's ALT!
This is a retro pop song.
I changed the KD to sound more like a techno Kick with Drumagog.
I used Izotopes Trash 2 on Keys and Bass I don't know if it really paid off, at least not as I imagined.
I think all around the biggest hurdle was trying to make this song exciting and powerful but I could not make that happen.
I think this song was poorly arrange and composed especially the drums, they don't create that nice pocket you would find in most retro style music of this genre. Its as if they found a loop and just tried to make it work without changing it for the music.
The solo at the end is pushed down in the mix because I felt it really added nothing but a harmony to the music and less of a melody worthy of being pronounced in the mix.
My main instrument is guitar and Im being stubborn and unreasonable about this I know.
Lastly, I am not an authority of this genre and I clearly don't have a strong concept of how to appropriately mix this style.
