I hear this song and think "grunge", and I attribute a dark and simple sound to grunge, so that's what I was going for. I think I succeeded, but I'll leave that up to the listener to decide.
Side note: The tracks for this song were recorded very well. That made mixing this song more enjoyable than many other songs, where the toms are mic'd so badly that you get more snare than tom from the tom mics. The artist(s) are just good at what they do as well, and that helps.
