Well fellow mixologists, this was a fun one. I was attracted to this because of the great groove and cool figure which defines this song. It also has the flavor of the Allmans and ELP with a dusting of Santana all of which I enjoy.
The age and tape based recording makes this a challenge especially on the kick drum for me. I was going to try for a nice open sound but it was soon evident that was not going to happen so I tightened things up in support of the groove and this is what I came up with. I hope you like it.
July 3
Placed the mix into an ambient environment to attempt to open it up some and give it more of a live feel. Added some doubling to the voice, In mastering, added slight reduction of low end and some slight increase in very top end.
Mixed using PreSonus Studio One 3 on Dell desktop monitors w/sub
