i havnt actually tried that before. i played with high passing the reverb, but wasnt happy with the result. but definately agree the kick is doing some nasty stuff down in the low end. ill try side chain compression like you said, and maybe even roll off some of the low end as well. thanks heaps. much appreciated. this is the first mix ive done thats anything like this, so any help is much appreciated.

The atmosphere is cool, but it's overloading everything.
Have you tried adding side-chain compression to aux reverb channels? That really helps to prevent things getting too washed out. Could especially help the drums, as I think it's mainly the kick that is generating lots of low-frequency reverb "bloom".
