Now that's a whole lot better to me
Like Bob Katz says..... it's the listener who should be in control of the volume knob.
I can turn this mix up, get more dynamics - and enjoy the whole interpretation. It didn't hurt me a bit this time. Like I mentioned earlier.... it's all personal preferences..."WE" mixing people hear lots of different material and often absolutely cringe when hearing some commercial released songs - knowing what we would (or wouldn't) have done. It's all very subjective. Even my wife [now] understands the whole 'loudness' thing I'm glad to say. Particularly for the less experienced in mixing.... it's doing them no favours 'slamming' the master buss with an L2 - or whatever. Time and time again, they fall into that hole. Louder is not 'better' (as we know only too well). Sure, things can sound 'loud' and sound good within their genre and that's great. That's what it's all about.... sounding good.... I hope
Just out of curiosity.... I really didn't like the bands choice of vocal performance for the song. I found one track I liked (and although it was not 'perfect), I stuck with it. What I do like is some of the 'other' lines I've heard in other mixes. I may just rebuild the vocals again from this new perspective.
