Forkupines: "Sleep By The Fire, Bloom In The Water" DWM Mix
#3
Thats strange, wurstdrummer, cause when I soloed both snares, my Mids went away. And that was before any plug-in's. After listening to the mix with fresh ears, my mix is a bit dull. it doesn't need more high end (>8K+) but just more clarity. I think a hurdle was the guitars. I ended up doubling the rhythm on the chorus' only, and added some chorus FX and smashed it with compression to make the chorus really pop out, and maybe thats what your noticing about the volume jump and down?

I think that the overall tone of the guitars was something that was a hurdle for me with this song. Overall, i think its my expectations of what the guitars for this song should sound like, vs your expectations (being as your their producer). So, the guitars aren't necessarily wrong, just not what I would have done, and I think that expectation is what hindered me a bit in mixing it. So, with that, I know I need to work on managing my expectations in mixing and just do my best with what I have.

I did that for a long time with drums, I would take recorded drums and try to make them sound like another drum, when what I really needed to do was work on the drums and make them sound like... them... haha.
