I'll have to check the vocals, it might be one of the compressor on the parallel buses that might "spit" too much.
First that comes to mind is the 1176 one ( used the all buttons in setting ), although it has a slower attack setting it might act like it's clamping down to fast on the vocal ( FETs are faster anyway)
You are right, the toms are wild with that SSL compression, and it's about 6 to 8 db.
