Hi john, just a couple of thoughts; One kick drum, two bass.
On the kick drum , less sub, and more click. bass is fighting the kick, and too loud. Once this foundation is sorted all other elements will have more space to be rebalanced and shine. Keep on Keeping on.

Hi John thoughts on bass ; most times we don`t need the bass to be louder; it is the fq around 900k - 10k that need to trick the ear into believing there is more bass there. when we listen on small speakers we barley hear low mids and sub,
but we know the bass is there because we hear those higher fq.s bass and sub bass fill the speakers more than any other fq , and will eat a lot of space need for other elements. On the reference preview mix, try to copy how the elements sit in relation to each others loudness. what are the three most loudest important elements they are using , and then build you mix keeping those three elements heard at all times. hope this helps

I look forward to following your progress on this forum. yes, so much to learn and can be very frustrating most of the time.
Keep on keeping on.
