Back Home To Blue [Mixed by Mange] - mange - 11-02-2015

My take on this track. Opened up the song a bit softer than the producer had in mind. Copied the basstrack from somewhere else to achieve that. One experiment that turned out well was the mute of the drum room track during first verse. Another was the triggering of some tom samples. First time for me. Hard to get them to fit sonically to the original kit. DidnĀ“t want to replace kick and snare.
Another thing that turned out good was the mute of some "rythm" guitars during electric solos.
At the end I think it got pretty decent. What do you Think?

Overall it's well balanced (in level and frequency) and by far one of the better mix uploaded of this song, I will use this one as my reference track when i'm mixing my version. Good job!

For me there were only two things that I would like to say something about:

1: The bass and the kick are very low (in frequency) they are both contributing to a lot of energy in this mix. Maybe the kick and the bass should be more separate. But hey, that's only my taste and it's your mix.
2: The elctr.guitars at (starting from) 1:30 and 2:55 are a little bit to hard, it did hurt in my ears. Maybe lower the frequency between 1,5khz and 3,5khz somewhere over there.

As said, one of the better mix uploaded this song. Good job!

Thanks for the kind words. I do agree it got a bit subby. Got lazy and didnt listen to it on somewhat better headphones until now. about the guitar... Do you mean the one that I added some tremolo to. If I remember corectly I did cut topend of it quite alot. Wished he strummed the chords with a darker tone or voicing.

Yeah those were the ones that I meant, they are a little bit to bright. Something that I noticed in the headphones but on the laptop speakers they did sound good. I agree with you on that part, he should have strummed the chords in a little darker tone.

Hi!
Very good job!

I like especially the drum-sound and the vocals - and your changes in the arrangement! They surely add more variety to the song and more depth in my opinion.

Thanks for the encouragement to change things Wink

Best regards,
Chris
