Blue - Patrick Talbot my mix - maddrummer - 10-12-2014

OK guys, this is my first submittal on this site though I been mixing a bunch here. I like the general take everyone had. Light and airy. I tried to keep to that theme using my new Slate VMR FG-N EQ on the vocals, and Revival on guitar and drums. Most EQing was with Lufitikus EQ on most all the tracks. I used a Lexicon 960 reverb IR send to glue it together. Mastering was oZone 5. I tried to use the MIDI parts but have never mixed midi seriously so I took them out. Would have really liked to have tried some of my 12 synthesizers out on it. I'm a newB on midi. DAW was Reaper. Thanks for listening. As always feel free to add your constructive criticism after all that's what we're here for right?

RE: Blue - Patrick Talbot my mix - Cudjoe - 10-12-2014

hi maddrummer i take it you are a drummer or a big fan of drums,to me the vocals sound lost behind the drums, imo,,and too much verb, i have to admit my first mix of this track i did something similar and ptalbot told me about it,keep on trying you will get there, cudjoe

This is my second mix of Blue. I tried to tame the drums down and lessen the reverb however I still wanted that back slap in the snares. Had some other drums in the other tracks that I didn't group which I believe was making the drums still loud and I wasn't controlling. My mistake for not double checking instrument sub grouping. How do you like this? And YES I AM a DRUMMER! lol

much more jelled well done.

Second version sounds better! I find the cymbals a bit too bright though, they seem closer than the rest of the kit if that makes sense...

So I took this one and remixed and remastered it. It's been a few years since and my skills and equipment and software has advanced quite a bit since the last mix of this tune! :-) So on this take I mixed in Reaper 64 bit v5.76 using Slate Everything bundle and Waves SSL and CLA2A as well as a few others including a Leslie type plugin on the Rhodes piano. The mastering was done in another DAW, Harrison Mixbus 32C to give it the nice warm analog feel. Only plugins used there was a Waves Puigtec EQ and Ozone 7. So guys, tell me how you like it or hate it and feel free to ask me any questions! Big Grin
