Jessica Childress - Slow Down - Pete Hughes - 24-01-2021 In this mix I was surprised how much hefty boosts at different frequencies really helped with clarity and separation of key instruments. 12DB boost @4k on the piano, and the 11DB boost @300hz on the Bass. I didn't use any of the recorded hall or drum room ambient tracks. Instead I opted for a single ValhallaVintageVerb - Plate preset. Then I used delayed sends from each instrument to create the illusion of depth: 60ms delay on the drum send, 30-40ms on piano & guitar, 20ms on the bass, and 0ms on the lead vocal. Other than that, I added a little slapback delay to the lead vocals. I'm becoming an increasing fan of staged compression on vocals. I have 4 compressors in series, the first with very fast attack & release, and then each compressor in the chain having progressively slower attack and release values.
