Mix Critique - jlawford - 03-01-2021 Nice track! I found the horns a bit bright so I bussed them together and shelved in some 800Hz and below. Trumpet I actually tweaked in some top end to help it punch against the saxophone, which I actually low-passed a little along with the trombone. Some harsh 2Khz region on the piano and it needed brightening up some. Bass I favoured the mic and punched in some mid and finger brightness to keep it bouncing along without overwhelming the bass end. Drums a little compression to bring up the lower level details but I favoured the overheads and gave it a character EQ boost in the upper mids to bring out the ride cymbal. Most everything got a high-pass. Tapped a full-band compressor on the mix buss and added a shelving boost on the sides signal only at around 6KHz and above by up to 6dB I think. Mixed into a full-band limiter that got tapped once of twice. Let me know what you think! Mixing 100% on (Focal) headphones BTW! I think I understand them pretty well by now though. |
