Roar - Eric Nilsson Mix - EricNilsson - 24-11-2019

Hi all!

This is my take on Roar.

I just bought the Brainworx BX_CONSOLE SSL 4000 G and this is the first mix I'm testing it out on.
I did all eq:ing and compression on the channel strips except for a Waves SSL G Bus Compressor on the 2-bus.

I used Valhalla Vintage Verb for reverbs and the delay function in the Waves J37 on the lead vocals.

Hope you enjoy!
And please don't hesitate to leave a comment, I would appreciate it a lot!

It feels pretty good. Organic. I think the vocal could be just a step more in front with maybe a little less upper mids. Or more likely side chained compression to De-ess and take off some edge so it can come forward and be a little bigger. Just a thought. Sounds good overall.

Thank you for your comment!

I’m working on a second version to fix some other details and will certainly have your thoughts in mind! Glad you liked it over all!

I bounced out a second version of the mix, just small changes:

I lowered the threshold on the lead vocal compressor and raised the overall volume a bit, hopefully this made the vocals pop out a bit more. I also took away a bit of the 7k to get away a bit of sharpness.

I took away some high mid from the electric bass part to deal with the "klonck klonck" sound that was a bit too much when referencing through my laptop and phone.

I duplicated the Clap part and dragged it out of sync and panned it to the opposite side with the original in the middle sections. I just thought that it sounded a bit thin on its own.

Finally I did open up the low pass filter on the 2-bus and added just a tiny bit of limiting to make the mix just a bit brighter and louder.

Please let me know what you think!
