I know I'm about three years late - but there you have it.
Loved the song. I'll post another mix tomorrow, but this one is my "place the reverie *at the seashore" version...so I'm intentionally situating it much closer to what I'm hearing as waves crashing through the reverie.
This went through lots of hardware...several layers of compression on certain pieces, of course...and plenty of saturation. I particularly liked the RFZ80 eqs on what I called the "string synth" - just beautiful presence control. Listen close for some panned plate verb (to the left) and tape echo (to the right) on certain passages.
Tomorrow I'll do a mix with less "added ambiance" and perhaps more faithful to the song's vision.

As promised - here's a different mix. Note that there is a significant level change as well in comparison to the first, perhaps less mainstream, mix.

These are both fabulous mixes, and i'm delighted that you had so much fun with the piece!!
I've never really thought of it programatically before, but after listening to your mixes, I now envision the piece as starting looking out to sea pre-dawn, then the sun coming up and the day bursting into life, with waves crashing along the shoreline in the middle. Quite revelatory - thank you so much for the insight!!
I'll offer some more of my electronica to Mike to put up, when i can get myself organised.
In another part of my musical life, I write and record acoustic singer/songwriter songs!! I also write, play and sing loud rock music!!
I do love contrasts!!

Cool! This was a ton of fun to "sink into" and "feel" - if that makes any sense...that probably led to what you term 'programmatic' leanings in my thinking :-)
