#32 GET FOOLED - Wave of Mutilation Mix - Deliza - 15-02-2019

These guys are really good, I just wish they double tracked guitars more often. For reference, I started listening to Steve Albini’s work for “After Murder Park” by The Auteurs, then realized this had more of a Pixies feeling and then pretended I was mixing circa 1995 Smashing Pumpkins.

Tried not to go overkill with compression, so to keep at least the illusion of dynamics. Also, it’s hard to resist the urge to make everything bright and trebly, especially not trusting my monitoring (ah, now cans are “monitoring”?) enough to judge lowend. Again, I referenced SP’s “Machina II” for global tonality, since that’s a pretty dark and phat album. Slowly turning to the dark side of unnecessary loudness, thou oddly enough, this doesn’t sound as loud as other mixes I’ve done with lower LUFS and DR readings. I guess it’s because it’s kinda a dark sounding mix, whatever.

Have a blissful weekend everyone!
