Marcus Boeltz: 'Shut Up And Play' kapu mix - kapu - 02-10-2017

Went almost with a live console style setup.

Good sounds and an interesting take on this. Not the panning I used but very effective. The drums are interesting and different. I think there is some loss of energy and drive in the lead guitar because of its placement and tone. Minor but important.

I agree about the panning. The hard right lead guitar skews the focus mix too much. The drums feel a bit too dry to me. I like the kick tone.

Thanks for feedback. Went with static 'stage setup' panning, and liked it. ^_^

For me it's usually enough if the kick/snare/bass combination and lead vocals is centerish, so the 'rest' of the stuff can just 'exists' somewhere. In this particular case if I'd centered the melody guitar, I probably would have tried to spread the rhythm guitar with some decorrelation or haas type effect, and ended up with an unholy mess, so I just went with the live stage panning. ^_^

Hey! I was thinking the same thing, the bass of the leadguitar is way to bassy to be having that much of it in the sidechannel, a nice highcut in the stereofield (maybe on guitarbus if you have it thru there) is in need. It also feels like the bass is very undeep when you got stereobass because there is so much power in a "closer" perspective. It almost makes the mix feel like you got many layers of bass, so the mix gets very bassy even if it isn't, so you loose alot of clarity because of the focus being a bit messed up.

Thanks for feedback! Did some minor tweaks including cutting the lows of guitar and updated the file. ^_^

Hi Kapu ,
Love your mix Sounds Great .
I am away from my studio and forced to listening on just headphones which is a real challenge so take my comments with a grain of salt ,I am also hearing some subtle deep bass ,kick and guitars a little full in the side channels below 200hz which is interesting and maybe not an issue on monitors !
Well Done !
Cheers Big Grin

Thanks for feedback! I think it sounds pretty decent from laptop speakers, so I'm probably going to leave it for now. Maybe a completely new version later. ^_^

Can always count on kapu to bring something interesting to the table! I'm guessing you love drums? lol Cool vibe, I like it, punchy and tasty. Being a guitar player, I cannot cope with the panning, I NEED that lead front and centre! lol Overall, nice sound though buddy. Cheers, Mick
